Nasce a Boston nel 1913 da genitori italiani. Nel 1927 si trasferisce con la famiglia a New York dove completa la sua formazione scolastica e si affaccia nel mondo dell’arte. Dal 1941-45 presta servizio nell’esercito americano e nel 1948 si trasferisce a Roma, dove espone le sue opere alla Galleria il Cortile ed entra in contatto con A. Burri e Afro Basaldella. Nel 1949 è nuovamente a New York, attivo nella Downtown scene del Greenwich Village e tra i fondatori dell’Eight Street Club con F. Kline, W. De Kooning e M. Rothko con i quali realizza quella che viene considerata la prima mostra dell’Espressionismo Astratto americano. Marca-Relli è noto per la sua tecnica del collage, sviluppato sovrapponendo lembi di carta, tela e a partire dagli anni ’60, placche metalliche.
