Nasce nel 1974 a Winnipeg, in Canada. Dalla fine degli anni ‘90 inizia ad esporre su larga scala sia negli Stati Uniti che all’estero. Il lavoro di Marcel Dzama è caratterizzato da un linguaggio visivo immediatamente riconoscibile che deriva da una vasta gamma di riferimenti e influenze artistiche, tra cui Dada e Marcel Duchamp. Oltre ai ben noti disegni a china e acquerello i cui soggetti raffigurano mondi anacronistici popolati da figure umane, animali e ibridi, negli ultimi anni l'artista ha ampliato la sua pratica per comprendere la scultura, la pittura, il film.
